What is Exercise Settings?

Exercise Settings provide each workspace with its own user management and data settings for a tailored exercise experience.

The Members section enables select users to invite, view, and manage Members and set the exercise Time Zone.

The remaining sections are composed of database values in drop-downs to customize for the respective workspace. Users may view, add, edit, or delete the following:

  • JMETs. Joint Mission Essential Tasks (JMETs ) are used for DOD Training Objectives and Accredited Tasks.

  • Organizations. When adding Exercise Details in PLAN, users will need to select the Primary Organization from the drop-down or create a new one.

  • Platforms. On the Participants section of PLAN, users select the Platform for the participant. The Platform represents the asset or capability of the participant being exercised (e.g., C-130, Public Affairs, EMT, Urban Search, and Rescue Task Force, etc.). Example Resource (FEMA Resource Typing Library Tool).

  • ESF/Organization Type. Essential Support Function (ESF) or Organization Type defines a category of a participant and is used on the Reports page/Analytics to present data by a particular type. Customizable to meet the specific criteria of your exercise.

  • City/Town/Service/Department. Describes a structured level of the participating organization. It is also used on the Analytics page of the Reports section to filter/present data according to this level.

  • Jurisdiction/Service/Department Types. Describes the user-defined type of the participating organization level of the Participant. It is also used on the Analytics page of the Reports section to filter/present data according to this type.

  • Inject Methods. Inject Methods are used in any of the MSEL sections of PLAN and are used to inform users about the way in which a MSEL Inject will be delivered.

  • Inject Owner. An Inject Owner is used in any of the MSEL sections of PLAN and identifies the scripting owner of the MSEL Inject.

  • Status Labels. View a key to all the MSEL Status Labels that can be used to document the status of a MSEL Inject.

  • Status Boards. MSEL Status Boards within this section. Status Boards provide users an additional capability to manage MSELs by selected statuses for planning and execution.

  • Assessment Reason. Assessment Reasons are used in Assessment and Feedback forms to help determine why a particular objective was partially effective or ineffective.

  • Objective Priority. User-defined to establish the priority of the participant objectives for a more effective exercise.

  • Exercise Type. Our two current exercise types are HSEEP (for Emergency Management exercises) and DOD (for Military exercises).

  • From To. Refers to which entity an MSEL inject trigger is being sent from (typically a person or organization) and being sent to (participant/player).

  • Position. Refers to the position a member of a participant is fulfilling, such as a planner (i.e., Trusted Agent, Player, Scripter, Support, etc.).

  • Metric. Define the "metrics" or sub-tasks that are completed for the overall participant objective. These will be displayed in a drop-down on Assessment and Feedback forms. Users will choose from and input a value to help identify what it took to complete the objective.

  • Primary Source. A primary source of funding to establish the exercise budget.

  • Sub-Source. Option to add a sub-source as required to the primary source for the exercise budget.
