How do I Create an Exercise Incident?

PRATUS currently uses the Incident Workspace to support both real-world incidents and exercises. Creating an Exercise Incident allows your unit to practice incident management workflows, complete ICS forms, and conduct training activities within PRATUS.

Prerequisites

Before creating an Exercise Incident:

  • Ensure you have permission to create incidents within your Area of Responsibility (AOR).
  • Identify the AOR that will own the exercise.

Create an Exercise Incident

  1. From the PRATUS Hub, select the Menu (hamburger icon) in the upper-left corner.
  2. Select Organization Settings.
  3. Select Incidents.
  4. Select New Incident.
  5. Enter a name for the exercise.
  6. In the Incident Type field, select Exercise.
  7. Select the Area of Responsibility (AOR) that will own the exercise.
  8. Select Create Incident.

Verify the Exercise Was Created

After the incident is created:

  • The incident name will automatically be labeled as an Exercise.
  • The Exercise Incident Workspace will open.
  • The workspace will begin in the Initial Response (ICS-201) workflow.

From there, you can complete ICS-201 documentation, manage incident information, and, if needed, escalate the exercise into the Planning P ICS-202 workflow.

Best Practices

  • Select the AOR that is responsible for managing the exercise.
  • Use clear and descriptive exercise names so participants can easily identify training events.
  • Follow the same workflows and processes that would be used during an actual incident response to maximize training value.
